Cytotec (misoprostol) is a medicine intended for the prevention of ulcers in arthritis or pain medicine patients. Its effects are based on reducing the secretion of stomach acid therefore protecting the lining of your stomach. Cytotec will be efficient if you take it regularly, as otherwise it will be unable to protect your stomach lining. Make sure you tell your health care provider if you get rash, hives, trouble breathing and any other reactions that indicate an abnormal reaction of your body to the medicines you are using. In most cases Cytotec is tolerated well (except for cases of personal intolerance to the ingredients it contains) and only a few mild side effect are possible, such as headache, menstrual cramps, moderate diarrhea, flatulence, stomach cramps, vomiting, nausea, and constipation. You will need to tell your health care provider if you get any other more serious reactions, or in case the symptoms you had changed in intensity and got severe. Cytotec must never be used by pregnant or breastfeeding women, as this medicine can cause miscarriage, premature birth and other dangerous consequences. If you think you may have become pregnant – stop taking Cytotec and seek your doctor's advice.
